Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) and Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) are the most powerful tax shelters available to US employees. Yet, 40% of users forfeit funds every year. Why? Because the rules are confusing.

Part 1: The Strategy Hacks

1. The "Day 1" Loan (FSA Only)

With a Healthcare FSA, your entire annual election (e.g., $3,200) is available on January 1st, even though you haven't contributed it yet. You can spend it all in January, leave the company in February, and legally, you do not have to pay it back. It is an interest-free loan that can become a severance bonus.

2. The "Shoebox" Method (HSA Only)

Braces cost $5,000+. The FSA limit is ~$3,200. The hack? Schedule the treatment to start in December (use Year 1 funds) and continue into January (use Year 2 funds). You effectively double your limit.

7. Summer Camp is Deductible
